How to Find Energy Deals Not on Comparison Sites

Four independent methods to search the full UK energy market — and find deals that never appear in standard comparison results.

Why Don't All Energy Deals Appear on Comparison Sites?

Comparison sites operate on a commercial model: they only list suppliers who pay them a referral fee. Suppliers who don't participate in those arrangements — regardless of how competitive their tariffs are — simply don't appear in the results.

The result: millions of UK households make switching decisions based on a filtered, commercially curated view of the market — not the full picture.

Four Methods to Search the Full Market

01

Contact Suppliers Directly

Call or email energy suppliers directly and ask about tariffs not listed on comparison platforms. Some suppliers offer better rates to direct customers than to comparison site referrals — because they're not paying a referral fee on the acquisition.

02

Use Ofgem's Published Data

Ofgem publishes regulated market data at ofgem.gov.uk. This gives you an independent view of the market — including the current price cap, what suppliers are licensed to operate, and what the regulated maximum rates are. It's the most authoritative independent source available.

03

Search Smaller and Regional Suppliers

The UK energy market has dozens of licensed suppliers beyond the "Big Six" and the handful that appear on comparison sites. Searching smaller and regional suppliers directly can surface competitive tariffs that never appear in comparison results.

04

Look at Bundle Providers Comparison Sites Overlook

Multi-service bundle providers — particularly Utility Warehouse — are almost entirely absent from mainstream comparison results because they operate through partner networks rather than paying comparison site fees. Our independent research found UW consistently delivered the best overall value for bundled households.

What Our Independent Research Found

Energy Guardian used exactly this full-market approach — reviewing the complete UK supplier landscape rather than comparison site panels. Our research concluded that Utility Warehouse, rarely surfaced by standard comparison tools, delivered the best overall value for bundled households.

That conclusion is only reachable by going beyond comparison sites. It's the approach we recommend to every household searching for genuine savings.

Always Verify Before You Switch

Before switching to any tariff — including those we reference — always verify independently:

  • Contact Ofgem at ofgem.gov.uk to understand the regulated market
  • Confirm current rates directly with the supplier before switching
  • Check your existing contracts for exit fees
  • Ensure any deal you've found is still available at the point of switching
